The CRA responds to the ten year plan for the Creative Industries
The Creative Industries Sector Plan, published as part of the Industrial Strategy on Monday recognises that the creative industries ecosystem is a major driver for economic growth.
CRA Chair Deborah Annetts says, "As a member of the Creative Industries Council (CIC) the CRA warmly welcomes the ambitious 10 year strategy of a sector outgrowing other sectors. We note the focus on Createch as an important sector driving growth. However it is disappointing that other parts of the creative sector are barely mentioned or are omitted completely and we call on Government to remember that the creative industries are a complex eco system in which all the elements are integral to one another as they collaborate together to produce the great creative works for which the UK is known.”
“And as part of this vibrant and economically important sector, we remind Government of the huge role that copyright plays in ensuring that creators are paid thereby ensuring their talent remains within the sector. Without creators there is no creative industry. The current copyright regime is vital to not just the jobs of creators but also creating an economically strong sector. We also are keen to see alignment across Whitehall so that ambitions of the creative industries are supported by Government Departments which should also be playing their part in developing the creative industries; especially working with the Department of Education and the reform of accountability measures.
Lastly we welcome the announcement of a Freelance Champion and look forward to Government consulting with us on this important new role.”
