Our story

The Creators’ Rights Alliance (CRA) is a united voice for creators, made up of the major organisations representing creators in the UK. We were formed with the aim to promote, protect and further the interests of creators through policy, advocacy and campaigning work, and this remains our core purpose today.

We formed in 2001 out of the Creators' Copyright Coalition which had started in 1995 in response to several UK publishers' challenges to freelancers' rights in their work.

We have been members of the Creative Industries Council since 2023, a forum between the Government and the Creative Industries. The CIC works to help drive forward progress on key areas of growth fo the wider sector, including access to finance, skills, export markets, innovation and intellectual property.

Our current campaign priority is protecting creators’ rights in the age of generative AI.
