1 in 3 creative jobs lost to AI - major new research
30th January 2026
Five CRA members have published a major new report today: A Brave New World? Justice for Creators in the World of GenAI.
Analysis of data from 10,000 UK creators shows that creators are losing income and work to generative AI. And they are having their work stolen by AI developers across every creative discipline.
This is a creative worforce crisis. We are losing the people who shape our culture and our national heritage, whose works we watch, read, listen to and are inspired by.
Fairness must be at the heart of the government’s approach to generative AI. The report calls for the CLEAR framework to achieve this:
C – Consent first
L – Licensing, not scraping
E – Ethical use of training data
A – Accountability
R – Remuneration and Rights
The framework reflects what creators are asking for - not a rejection of technology, but clear rules that allow innovation to develop in a way that respects creative work.
The report is jointly published by the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM), the Society of Authors (SoA), Equity, the Association of Illustrators (AOI), and the Association of Photographers (AOP).
