CRA welcomes Axis to membership

22nd October 2026

We warmly welcome Axis to the Alliance.  Axis is an independent charity supporting contemporary visual artists.

Axis is led by artists and funded by its 13,000 members. The charity supports artists’ practice through funding, visibility, connection and practical help.

We asked PCAM why they decided to join at this time, and they said:

"Artists make the work. Other people make the rules.

What decides whether artists can carry on is rarely the work itself. It is what they get paid, what they are asked to sign, and what happens to their work once it leaves their hands.

AI and copyright are two of the loudest of those questions right now. Inequality, low pay and bad contracts have been there for years. And more and more, what gets seen turns on decisions made by corporations and the few men who own them. When artists are pushed out, public culture narrows.

Axis is an independent charity funded by its members. We do not speak for artists. We are a platform for artists’ voices in all their forms. Advocacy is the part of our work we are stepping up, and the same pressures run through writing, music and performance. That is why we have joined the Creators’ Rights Alliance, to make things better for artists and creators."
