CRA welcomes PCAM to membership
7th October 2026
We warmly welcome PCAM (The Society for Producers and Composers of Applied Music) to the Alliance. PCAM began in 1982 as an industry forum for composers and producers of advertising music, and has since established a reputation as a respected and influential trade association campaigning for composers’ rights in all forms of applied music.
To support composers and maintain fairness in the media music industry, PCAM has negotiated widely-used UK industry-standard contracts, and their website (www.pcam.co.uk) has a range of guidelines covering best practice, licensing, budgeting, and fee structures for use in composing music for advertising and other audio-visual applications.
PCAM also runs regular educational and social events, publishes informative Newsletters five times a year, runs a mentoring programme to help women and gender expansive composers succeed in the industry, partners with PRS for Music to run sessions for young composers from disadvantaged backgrounds, publishes a regular podcast series on music administration and production issues, and provides a Helpdesk service where members and non-members alike can ask questions and get advice on administrative, legal, and technical issues from experienced PCAM Committee members.
We asked PCAM why they decided to join at this time, and they said:
"Over the past decade, as power imbalances have grown in the music industry and as conditions for freelance media music composers and small companies have become more difficult, PCAM has focused increasingly on education around music administration to help composers avoid being pressured and exploited, and on campaigns to protect creators’ rights. Two key issues for us currently are AI and copyright, which we know cuts across most creative industries, and the difficulties composers of advertising music have in getting royalties from ads on streaming services.
"We have decided to re-join the CRA because these are the kinds of issues that come up in many of the creative industries that are CRA members. PCAM is a small organisation with limited resources, and we recognise that there is strength in numbers when it comes to the issues that most concern us, especially the implications of AI."
