Creators’ Rights Alliance announce a new Chair and Vice-Chairs

The Creators’ Rights Alliance (CRA) Board met last week and made a few changes to their organisational structure to strengthen their advocacy at this time of great challenge and uncertainty for the creator. The CRA will now have two Vice Chairs working together with the Chair on specific areas namely AI and campaigning.

Anna Ganley, CEO of the Society of Authors (SoA), the CRA’s Chair since November has stepped aside from leading the CRA and Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM) will now take on this role. Deborah was unanimously voted in by the Board.

Isabelle Doran, CEO of the Association of Photographers will step up from the Board to take the role as Vice-Chair specialising in AI, and Anna Ganley continues to support the CRA as Vice-Chair focusing on operational support.

Colin Stuart (Head of External Affairs at the ISM) has stepped down from the Board and we thank him for his dedication and expertise in steering the CRA’s campaigns and policy work.

Deborah brings her extensive experience of lobbying and campaigning across many issues which impact creators.

Speaking about her election as Chair, Deborah  said; “I am incredibly honoured to take up the Chair role at the CRA and already we’ve discussed vital advocacy work with our Board members. The situation is perilous around AI and the threat to creators is real. Action is needed on lobbying the Government on behalf of creators. I’m excited to get to work.”

Deborah is an Honorary Research Fellow at Queen Mary University, has been named by Woman’s Hour on its power list of women working in music and was also named on the Music Week Roll of Honour in 2022.

The CRA’s strengthened Board is committed to driving forward its vital work in policy, advocacy, and campaigns. As creators face increasing pressures on their rights and income, the CRA will continue to push for fairer remuneration, better working practices, and stronger protection of intellectual property rights.
