IPEC Small Claims Track

Following the announcement that the Small Claims Track (SCT) of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) in London was to move to Manchester on 3rd July 2023 the CRA and BCC wrote a joint letter to the Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Justice outlining our concerns.

We met with the IPEC User Committee, chaired by HH Judge Richard Hacon of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court along with fellow presiding judges. You can read their responses in full below.

Although overall, it seems that there is not a huge change to the current system, and it is hoped that the move will enable administration to be much more efficient. We would advise anyone planning to use the system for the first time to contact their professional organisation or union for assistance, and CRA member organisations to contact the CRA directly.

The IPEC guidance notes have recently been updates to reflect the change. The current version of the IPEC Guide is here.

We have contacted the IPEC User Committee with our feedback as we feel in its current form the Guide isn’t very user friendly or complete. As soon as the amended version is published with our recommended changes made, we will publish it here.
